Why retell Christ story if it was already told and as you stated in your own words, that has already been done and done well…because you want Christ to fit your lifestyle. Given the content, this is going to piss a lot of people off and make a lot of people think. I’m looking forward to this one, and I’m a used books sort of someone. People will take what they will and I hope they ban it. What better way to get people to read it? I think it’s funny how people say that the content is irrelevant in the face that there are a ton of bibles and other books about the bible that fall into the scripture category and that this could be labeled as “blasphemy.” I’m not saying I know more than anyone else, but also, if Christ’s message was about love and forgiveness, he loves sinners too. Man may turn against itself, but if Jesus is the God people portray him to be, he wouldn’t turn his back.

Hey guys! This novel was such a romp that I finished it in less than 2 days. The author obviously intended it to be super controversial which is why I bought it, seeing as I’m such a naughty boy… but it’s much more than that: it’s a refreshing kick in the nuts. I highly recommend it to ALL.

Its strange. While I can’t stand the way James Frey writes, I continue to read his books, just to see what it is he has to say. That man is like marmite, and so are his books. Interesting though it is, I don’t find it particularly engaging. The concept of his new book is nothing new, but the way it’s presented is not something I’ve seen before. So I’ll read it anyway, just for something to talk about.

Well, just finished your book Mr Frey. Again, you’ve left it unclear whether it’s fiction; your acknowledgments at the end indicate that it’s fact, at least according to the characters in the book. Your writing style continues to intrigue me, so I thank you for that, and I won’t argue with the–dare I say–moral of your story (that being, I take it, that love is the ultimate truth of our experience)…I can’t agree that religion is the root of all evil, however, since I’ve seen how much good is done by those serving a religion. Greed and power, however, I think you’ve hit the nail on the head, and it is these things that corrupt all that may be good, and what might ultimately cause humankind’s downfall….anyways, you’ve given me some new things to ponder, affirmed some of my convictions, and challenged some of my preconceptions, and you can’t ask for much more in reading material, so thank you! Now I have to go find a tunnel to live in for 30 years–any suggestions?

I also watched both days of your interview with Oprah, Mr. Frey, and I was very happy for you. You came away from your previous interviews with the proverbial elephant in your life and you made a very good life for you, your family, and your elephant. I am astounded that people did not really try to understand what you were saying yesterday and today, but am very glad that you and Oprah reached an understanding of where you were both coming from and where you both are today. I too, have my moments of doubt, but also have the voice inside me that tells me to keep loving.

James, after watching you on Oprah and reading the comments above I’m floored and entertained in a horified way. I read a million little pieces and passed it along to numerous people to read. True false or somewhere in between matters not to me. Thank you James! I’m glad Oprah apologized and that you got back up and continued on “your journey through life”! Wow! These comments really concern me for what society is today. The things that make us human is our thoughts, feelings, beliefs and capability to love. Those who represent their faith are very judgmental in these comments and those defending the freedom to write are as judgmental. This is a book and its meant to be read to inspire thought not change peoples identity. Each person has a choice here to read it or not so why attack the writer or each other. Those who this is against your faith don’t read it. If it offends you stay away from it and its website. It being published doesn’t impact your relationship with your God. Unfortunately when those believers “preach” they lose their message and integrity of their point. Be careful to not push your belief on others as forcing it at someone only pushes them away. Quoting scripture only shows you have a good memory but acting from the bible shows faith. Its never about the words its the actions that matter and show how you have learned from your God. To have a passionate debate or discussion should be thought out, communicated with respect and be fact based. Name calling requires none of those actions its just not appropriate. Its harder to take the high ground but when you go to sleep at night you will never have a regret.

Loved the interview with Oprah. We lost our little boy at 10 days old, so I really felt for you today. You are right the pain never goes away, I would love to see you write a book about that. I find myself falling in love with Ben.

I haven’t read any of James Frey’s books yet, but I’m going to. I watched his last interview with Oprah the other night and I loved that he stood his ground. No matter what is being said about him, good or bad, its not interfering with his dedication to write about what he cares about, right or wrong, true or not. Writers want to make an impact in the world, they want the reader to gain something from the words they’ve written. Oprah’s motivation for the interview wasn’t all that selfless and she acknowledged it. Both left the interview feeling understood and forgiven. We have been given a creative brain and we should use it – to question the things that are important to us, to argue them, even to disbelieve them, but always to be searching for the truth, our truth. That truth that matters to us as an individual. And that means reading whatever is needed to spark that debate, to take it to another level. Good for you James, your intellect is wonderful.

I have just finished The Final Testament of the Holy Bible and thoroughly enjoyed it. I notice some argument here on the website between two parties, one citing plagiarism etc.

I think the point is missed somewhat. Yes, the idea of a book about a ‘second coming of ‘Christ” has been circulating for decades if not hundreds of years; who knows? But this book ardently denies any affiliation of the ‘protagonist’ (for want of a better word as Ben Zion would surely not call himself ‘protagonist’) with any existing religious ideology or faith system.

It is not a book about religion, it is a book about humanism essentially. Yes, I’m sure it shares some parallels with those books being argued over in the below comments but it is such a well put and striking expression of what is wrong with the world today that it set’s itself apart as something rather different.

It is a book of moral common sense. Religion is antiquated and irrelevant today no matter how hard one tries to make it seem otherwise. The sooner it is realised, the sooner we can get on with being good to each other. We do not need some ancient ‘moral’ code written down by men who were at best no more ‘moral’ than ourselves, whatever that might mean.

For fear of being attacked for ‘plagiarising’ the content of FTHB, I’ll stop now! Great book. Great message.

Ok. I bought the books, and to be honest, wasn’t “outraged” that they weren’t fiction. They were entertaining enough. Fucking loved them. Even loaned them to friends (we’re in New Zealand) and said “It’s not a real account, but enjoy the ride”… All loved and requested Leonard)…

So. New book comes out. Of course I buy it. But I buy two books (an aside, I buy Anna Quindlen’s Every Last One as well), and husband says “Where’s my book?”, so I tell him The Final Testament is for him. (He’s an athiest, and buys non-fiction as a rule, but I digress). He starts reading. For him, to read 20 minutes a session is amazing. He cannot put the book down. He reads a third of it the first night. I read my Girl Book (it’s also amazing, again, not important). But during the day while he’s at work, I neglect the kids, and I read it. I read that book while pretending to watch my kids paint. I read it while listening to them do their “show” with puppets. My husband and I are both two thirds of the way through it (I’m at page 225, I can’t bookmark it or he’ll know I’ve read His Book first). We both think it’s the Book of the Year. And I read. I read a LOT. Fuck the critics – I just googled and was gobsmacked to see the negative reviews, and can only assume they’ve all got bitter bees in their arse about the whole fiction v non fiction thing. You’ve done good. IF the book hangs off in the last third, I’ll be back to retract, LOL.. Otherwise, this is a book I’ll be telling everyone I know to BUY.

All of you bitching and rawling on this page are ridiculous. the whole point of literature is to challenge people. I think he is a brave man and just human. Picked up this book last night, and already about half-way through (I’m typically a pretty mild-paced reader). Absolutely cannot put this book down. I’m already enjoying it more than AMLP and BSN, and those are two of my favorite books. A very thought provoking book. It’s good when someone puts a different ‘spin’ on current beliefs or views. Originally I looked on this site for a book review and all there was, down the side of the screen, were people bickering and stating ‘he said that first’, ‘he stole the idea’. Not helpful and there I was thinking that everyone was entitled to their own view. Read the book and if you don’t happen to like it, move on and read another. it that simple.

James Frey’s words soothe me. This time I quote Mariaangeles in The Final Testament Of The Holy Bible. Frey’s free version of the bible. Because what if god were like you and me? Struggling with and in daily life. Frey himself does not believe in god. He believes in everything and nothing and everything in between. He lets his thoughts and feelings go. To show. The rough. The raw. The pure. The honest. Soothing soft. To me.

I had been with three men before. One when I was twelve. The father of my child. The manager. Except for the manager, I’d waited. Tried to make sure they loved me. I know I loved them. Would have done anything for them. Killed for them or died for them. Hit the cross for them. I thought they felt the same, loved the same. But love is different for every person. Cause not accepting that love is different for every person, isn’t that the pain we feel in our hearts? Not accepting that life is different for everyone. That every single one of us have different ways to express ourselves. That that is okay. That that should not hurt our hearts as much as our hearts hurt.

Don’t his words clarify the discomfort between men and women? Make us see that our different feelings are the reason it is hard to express unselfish joy, happiness and love? Make us want to accept that the difference comes with uncomfortableness. Suck up the fucking us up. These words simply make me want to give up. Stop. Convincing him that I am right.

When I read James Frey’s ‘A Million Little Pieces’, I at first, like many people, assumed it to be an autobiographical text. The deeper I got into the book, the more skeptical I became, but this didn’t detract from the book’s essential message, or from my grateful appreciation of the narrative, which let’s face it, was simply sublime.

When it became public knowledge that the book was an inaccurate recounting of Mr Frey’s adventures, I was not at all surprised, and took the stance that it was a composite reflection of the lives of many people who had experienced similar situations and dilemmas as the author reported. In this respect, I felt the book did justice to a great many people by articulating their thoughts in a manner that they themselves never could.

I must say that I feel little thrills of pleasure whenever I hear militant cries of ‘Fraud’ from the literalists among us. One wonders if they took such an approach to the Bible, another beautiful piece of fiction never intended to be interpreted literally.

I enjoy Mr Frey’s courtship with controversy, and eagerly await his next polemic little novel, which I, and I doubt I am alone in this, will enjoy for the stimulating, FREsh waY in which it will be written.

If the ‘betrayed’ really need an outlet for their anger, I suggest they focus their attention on some of the political memoirs in their midst, where they will find a scarcity of implicit ‘disclaimers’ with rather more sinister consequences for the readers at which they are aimed.

Look, I don’t read much, Im not overly intelligent but I think Freys books are amazing. When I sit down with a book, I want to be taken somewhere else, I want to feel other emotions, be given a different perspective on life and enjoy what I am reading. All of Freys books tick these boxes. I dont care if he is a cheat or a liar of what ever else people may call him, His books are interesting to read, and once Im finished Im always left with some kind of emotional response. Thats enough for me to say that he is a talented author.

I have a story for you. I know you must get this all the time, everyone has a story to tell. This will unlock the bible and set all who seek after truth, free. “The Truth Will Set you Free”. All my life, then 47 years, I searched for the truth, as have many before me. I am now 52, and have been holding onto this for the past 5 years. I do not seek fame. I don’t want my name on it. I believe the story itself wants to be told, not I. I want to move on with my life, and yet I seem blocked, going nowhere slowly. I have just watched your VICE interview and I am greatly interested to read your book when it comes out. Your approach to this idea seems incredibly interesting and bold. As a believer in God I fully support you and your book. The idea of the world we live in being closed to free thought about beliefs is in my opinion completely absurd. The time you have put in and the thoughts you would have had to sort through to make this book a reality seem to me unbelievable. I commend you not only for pursuing this endeavor, but also having the courage and the backbone to share it with a belief shaky world.

Damn, I found this book in a little store in town I’d never been to before and how glad I am that I bought it. I only got 4 more chapters to go but I’m already addicted to it. (Been reading it for 2 nights now, meaning I went to sleep between 3-4 AM)
The different writing style of each character had me a little off at the start, but it’s brilliant. The way some of the characters think, the hate they have to other people’s lifestyles or religions (as much as I dislike such unfounded hatred) is explained in such a way you don’t even hate the character, you “understand” them. Or should I say, you tolerate them; for I for one felt really sad when reading how they felt. But, this also added to how I felt when reading how they changed their views.
Last night I was even in tears after a certain chapter (I wont spoil it for those that still want to read the book).
The ideas in this book really speak to me, for they make much more sense then any religion.

Live and let live; and it harms none, do what you will. If everybody in the world would just let other people who think differently be themselves, if everybody just had a little more love and caring towards their fellow human being, this world could REALLY be a better place

I first picked up A million little pieces a couple of years ago, when heading out to work on a ship. granted i had never herd of James Frey, and it was the dotted cover that attracted me to it. From the day i started reading it i was fixed on it and it made me feel every emotion going, it took me a while to get round to reading the other titles but i was equaly enthralled and entertained by them> I have 3 chapters left of The Final testament of the the holy bible and i have never read something that made so much sense to me.
I have grown up with many different religions and until a certain age i would say i was a believer, but then something changed in me. I accept people for what they believe but i couldn’t put in to words what i meant. but after reading this brilliant book I finally had a verbal understanding of what i was feeling.

Ok, so maybe I’m missing something here, but I think what James Frey is a really beautiful thing. In the time of Jesus, Pharisees would go around wearing fine clothes and speak out of their asses while the sick and the poor would go hungry on the streets. Throughout the Gospels, Jesus reprimanded the Pharisees for their hypocrisies and indignities. So, James Frey writes a new book about what it would be like if Jesus Christ were to live in this society today? And I am sure there are so many rants and raves about how it is Anti-Christian and this and that. Well, let me tell you something. Having been raised a Roman Catholic AND a Protestant (non-denominationalist, same thing), I can speak from the heart that life is not always so clear cut. Yes, I believe in human decency. Yes, I believe in God. But I don’t believe in hate. I don’t like lies. And those people who bash James Frey for writing a book which may or may not benefit the billions of souls on this planet ought to be ashamed of themselves. Ashamed. I’m not going to drag out my mother’s Bible here, but I do believe it is written, in paraphrase, that faith, hope, and love are the three greatest things a man can possess, but nothing else matters if there is not love. Love. Not hate. Love. Open your ears. Open your eyes. Look within yourself. God resides inside your heart, not through the false ambitions of those who preach “True” Christianity but fail to understand that love does make the world go around.
