I think the punctuation is absolutely perfect and just what James intended. For me, it was an invitation to enter his stream of consciousness, which is frequently profound.

I have just finished Bright Shiny Morning. I am an avid reader who reads no less than 3 books a week and have read this way since I was 5 years old. This is by far the WORST book I have ever read and wish I hadn't wasted 2 days of my life reading this meaningless dribble. I would be the happiest person on the plant if only I was able to return this book to the bookstore where I purchased it. Will have to settle for throwing it in the trash.

James, you outdid yourself again. I hope you read this because I genuinely want to know just how much you inspire me as a writer. Bright Shiny Morning ranks as one of the best books I've ever read. I love your unique writing style and have been a fan of yours since A Million Little Pieces. You have a way of creating characters and emotions with such rich simplicity. Esperanza/Doug and Maddie and Dylan were pairings that simply ripped my heart out...and inspired me at the same time. I knew that an ill-fate loomed for Maddie and Dylan...and yet I hoped for something different. You kept it real. It wasn't all rainbows and moonbeams...you wrote about Hollywood without the Hollywood ending. Perfect. Flawless. Oh! And I can't wait to check out the Banana Museum! Who knew?:)

I don't care if A Million Little Pieces or My Friend Leonard are fact or fiction. They are wonderful books, absolutely emotionally breathtaking books. I've never cried because of a book and Frey changed that for me. I love him.

Very few people, literate or not, who gush on the covers of books have actually read them. Plus nobody ever accused Irvine of being illiterate, despite his style of writing- not least his bank manager. Sadly, virtually everybody under the age of thirty is only semi-literate thanks to the spell checker....
